The Environmental Cleaning Project during the Poson Festival is a 14-day volunteering initiative focused on promoting environmental awareness and sustainability during one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred religious celebrations. The Poson Festival, held mainly in Anuradhapura, marks the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka and attracts thousands of pilgrims from across the country.
During this program, volunteers will work closely with local youth, community members, and temple authorities to conduct environmental cleaning campaigns, including waste collection, recycling initiatives, and awareness activities around key pilgrimage sites and surrounding areas. These efforts aim to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the sacred city while encouraging pilgrims and locals to practice eco-friendly habits.
By participating, volunteers contribute to both environmental protection and community well-being, while gaining meaningful experience in organizing and implementing sustainable development activities.
