May – Organizing Wesak festival celebrating activities

The Wesak Festival Celebrating Project is a 14-day volunteering program that allows participants to experience and contribute to one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred and colorful cultural events. Wesak celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha. a time filled with peace, devotion, and community spirit across the country.

During this program, volunteers will work closely with local youth and villagers to plan and organize a wide range of activities related to the Wesak festival. These include creating and displaying Wesak lanterns, decorating streets and temples, organizing “dansalas” (free food stalls), setting up Wesak zones, arranging cultural and musical performances, and supporting community service events that spread joy and compassion.

This initiative offers volunteers a meaningful opportunity to immerse themselves in Sri Lankan Buddhist culture, strengthen community ties, and develop event planning, teamwork, and leadership skills. Beyond cultural celebration, the project promotes unity, kindness, and shared happiness among all participants.
