The Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival Project is a unique 14-day volunteer program that brings people together to celebrate one of Sri Lanka’s most joyful and culturally rich traditions. Volunteers will work alongside a team of local youth to plan, organize, and host the village-level New Year festival, creating an unforgettable community celebration filled with laughter, culture, and unity.
The Sinhala and Hindu New Year, celebrated every April, is the biggest traditional festival in Sri Lanka. It symbolizes new beginnings, harmony, and the bond between communities. As part of this initiative, volunteers will help organize traditional games, prepare decorations, coordinate events, and promote cultural exchange activities that reflect the heart of Sri Lankan heritage.
Through this project, volunteers not only experience the vibrant customs and joyful spirit of the New Year but also contribute to community development and cultural preservation. Working hand in hand with villagers, they help strengthen local pride and togetherness while gaining a deep understanding of Sri Lankan traditions and lifestyles.
